The distributor cam was badly worn on my Triumph Spitfire which made setting the points difficult.  To overcome this, I have designed my own electronic ignition system to replace the points.

You can see on these photos just how worn the cam is.

The brass toothed disc that breaks the infra-red beam which triggers the ignition can be seen fitted to the distributor cam in the photo.  I have been using the car with the electronic ignition fitted for some time now and am extremely happy with the results.  The engine runs much smoother and I no longer need to adjust the ignition timing.
